The Upcoming Election
While I haven't used this blog for much of anything thus far, I've finally decided I've had enough. I want to put my comments out there, although they are unlikely to be read, but it will make me feel better to do it.
I am sick of hearing about the upcoming presidential election. I'll say up front that I don't care for either candidate nor any of the relative unknowns that are on the ballot. I'm not a party voter and thoroughly believe our political system in the U.S. is seriously flawed. No matter what comes out of McCain's or Obama's mouth, it's all rhetoric. It's said with the intent purpose of trying to convince people to vote for them. Most of it is nothing but lies and empty promises.
I'm particularly tired of hearing about social issues. No, I don't believe the government should be more involved in our lives. I don't want to live in a Socialist government, else I'd move somewhere else. Where has the fact that life is not fair gone? Obviously, completely out the door in this strange place we find ourselves - where political correctness has gone awry and controls our everyday lives to the extreme.
Ponder on these questions, if you will:
Since when did the Hollywood elite become the voice of what is best for our country?
Have most Americans forgotten that Congress is the part of our government that really runs the nation?
Why do people listen to the political commercials of either party and believe what they hear as if it's the absolute truth? Both sides are dishonest and simply are after your vote!
Will taxing company provided health insurance really help anyone? Not when it causes small businesses to either stop paying for their employee's health insurance because they can't afford the sudden increase in taxes, or having to terminate employees to save money.
Will raising the capital gains tax only hurt the wealthy? No, it will hurt the middle-class more than anyone, those who have worked hard and made their way up the ladder, working for an honest living and running their own businesses.
While they say they won't raise taxes except on those making over $250k, what they aren't telling you is they plan on raising the limits on other taxes. So instead of 6.5% up to $100k, it'll be raised to $200k -- who does that affect? Again, the middle-class small businesses who already pay more than their fair share of taxes.
Have you looked at the true numbers for either parties planned tax cuts and tax increases, really? Both candidates will only put us further in debt with their proposed plans.
Why are social issues such a significant focus? Those issues belong at the state level, not federal. Go back and read the Constitution -- the powers of the federal government are supposed to be limited.
While I don't believe we should send all the immigrants packing -- for goodness sakes, many of them do perform the jobs that so many citizens refuse to -- but we should not allow them to live here tax free and drawing from our tax funded welfare systems at both the state and federal levels.
Unemployment levels are such a joke... I daresay a larger percentage of Americans are simply "unemployable" but many of them still have jobs. You can go into many workplaces, be it Federal or State government, private or public, and you will find that a small percentage of the employees do 90% or more of the work. Many of the rest are simply paid to do very little.
Why are Americans afraid to break away from the Democratic and Republican parties? Why is more support not given to those who really stand for "CHANGE"? Real change would be to vote outside of the primary political parties!
I want everyone who says, "If Obama/McCainwins, I'm moving to Canada", to actually do it this time. I'm hearing it from both sides and quite frankly, if you feel that strongly, put your money where your mouth is and get the heck out of the country. Or simply shut up with the grandiose, bogus statements.
Let me repeat at this point, I am not for either candidate and that should be obvious by the mixed comments above. I am equally opposed to them both but I will vote for the one I think represents the lesser threat to America's well being.
If this post does get read by someone and you want to leave good or bad comments, please feel free. I can take either one... but if you do comment, I expect you to do one thing absolutely. Get out and vote, regardless of who you vote for - let your voice be heard. You can't complain about the problems if you are part of them!
